The term always begins on the 5th of the month of March, June, September, and December.
If it falls on the weekend, it will be postponed to the next Monday.
It is the Chinese Language Center's philosophy that you cannot isolate a language from the culture that lies behind it. Therefore, our aim with cultural courses is to bring students into contact with a variety of aspects of Chinese culture in a lively and active way.
We ultimately hope that some students may develop a lasting interest in one of the many facets of this culture.
Our program offers nine levels of Mandarin (Level 1 - 9). We place great emphasis on the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writting in all of our required classes.
To futher cater your individuale needs, we offer numerous electives, ranging from Taiwanese, Simplified Characters. Business Chinese and Word Processing, to Chinese Literature, Chinese History and Culture, which will enable you to have a total educational experience that is tailor-made for you.
2022 Tutorial Hour for summer term
Our teachers offer Tutorial Hour to assist students with any or many problems, including personal, tutorial, educational, or otherwise.
It’s from 10:00 to 12:00 on Tuesdays. We hope you will all find this very helpful.
Each quarter we take you on a one-day cultural trip which focuses on introducing different cultural or historical aspects of Taiwan's unique history and culture.
Our Chinese Language Center also offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, ranging from an on-campus contest each quarter to university sponsored luncheons.
After Class Practice
If you're not ready to step out of your comfort zone, that's fine. The Language Center has several events to help build your confidence, meet new people, and be a part of the FCU community.
A Language Center student averages 3 language exchange partners during his/her study here. Not only is this a great opportunity for you to practice your Mandarin, but making a local friend here is the best way for you to learn about our culture and enjoy the riches of Taiwanese lifestyle.
Everyday from 9 am to 5 pm, the Language Center has lined up local students awaiting at CLC office to assist you with any questions you may have in class or homework. In a comfortable and relaxed setting, this is a great place for tutoring. So feel free to drop by anytime and ask for help！
Our teachers are dedicated to see you excel in Mandarin and more than happy to provide out-of-class time to assist your needs. Each teacher is available one hour each week for all students with questions or problems – from pronunciation and grammatical corrections to casual cultural conversations. The advisory hours aim at creating a bond between students and the teacher by getting a closer knowledge of each others' backgrounds and prerogatives.
Language Center Resource Library
The Language Center Office contains a centralized language library, offering a wide range of materials for learning Mandarin, including translation dictionaries in many languages. These are available for teachers as complementary teaching materials and for students' individual practice. We have teaching, reading and listening materials in numerous languages to assist you in your learning process, including audio-visual equipment on cassette, CD and video.
