FCU honorably invited Dr. Konrad Young, a top expert in the semiconductor industry, as the chair professor

2021.02.09

Taiwan’s competitiveness in semiconductors has recently been reported globally. It cannot be denied that the development of AI and semiconductors is an important key to Taiwan’s future. Universities shoulder the educational goal of cultivating talents needed for industrial upgrading, and they need to grasp the trend of technology and actively integrate and develop the R&D energy of the school to catch up.

Feng Chia invited Dr. Konrad Young as the chair professor of Feng Chia University. With decades of rich experience in semiconductor production and research, Feng Chia believes that it will have a significant impact on the school’s talent cultivation, technological innovation or future research and development in related fields. .

Dr. Young, graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University in 1981, and obtained a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1986. He used to be a researcher at the Lincoln National Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a senior technician at Hewlett-Packard, and a senior manager at Chartered Semiconductor in Singapore. From 1998 to 2018, he held various positions such as the head of R&D at TSMC Taiwan headquarters and American companies. Since June 2019, he has served as an independent director of Global Crystal, a major silicon wafer manufacturer. Won the 14th National Industrial Innovation Award-R&D Management Innovation Award and the 92nd Executive Yuan "Outstanding Science and Technology Talent Award".

Feng Chia invited Dr. Konrad Young as the special lecture professor.

In addition to his outstanding performance in the industry, Dr. Yang is passionate about the development of education and is very concerned about the education and career issues of young people in Taiwan. As far as he is concerned, after studying abroad, he personally realized that the biggest difference in education between the two sides is the experience and infiltration of occupation and industry. Therefore, he believes that higher education should be proud of its ability to create industries and employability. In the next semester of 109, the school will open a general education course on "Introduction to Semiconductor Technology and Industry", open to all students interested in participating in the school, and will also invite Dr. Konrad Young to give lectures to share the knowledge of semiconductor technology and the development of the global semiconductor industry trend.

With the joining of Dr. Young, our school will also integrate more than 40 teachers with R&D expertise in semiconductor upstream, midstream and downstream related fields under the overall coordination and coordination of Vice President Ciou, and jointly promote our school’s teaching and research in semiconductor related fields. It is expected that the "Semiconductor Enhancing Credit Course" will be added in the 110 academic year. At the same time, semiconductor experts in the industry and academia will be invited to give guidance and consultation. On the one hand, it will cultivate software and hardware talents, and on the other hand, it will assist in the transformation and upgrading of the industry. A University has become an academic hub for talent cultivation and technology research and development in the semiconductor field in the central region, and jointly maintains Taiwan's semiconductor industry's global competitiveness.
